Hurricane MitchEvelyn

In November, 1998, shortly after Hurricane Mitch stuck Nicaragua, we once again began collecting foodand other relief supplies to send to Nicaragua. The food was collected primarily in Brookline schools and churches and, as before, additional palettes of powdered milk were purchased. The week of February 29 to March 6, the container remained in the parking lot of Town Hall where it was finally loaded for shipment to Nicaragua. We worked closely with the Rotary  Club on this project ,and much of the load was stored in a warehouse they offered us until time for shipment. The shipment date was delayed while they helped us try to obtain free shipping, but when it became clear that was not going to happen, we paid for the shipment out of funds raised for the relief effort. Once again, a representative from Brookline traveled to Quezalguaque to meet the container and supervise the distribution of its contents.
