“Ecofogones”

The Quezalguaque stove project continues to be a great success, improving on the upper respiratory health of families, helping the environment by consuming less wood than the traditional open fires and providing a few jobs in a town with high unemployment.
While the project has become self-sustaining, filling orders in and around Quezalguaque, we continue to be involved by subsidizing stoves for low-income families.
We were able to purchase one of these “ecofogones” for each of the fifteen Habitat houses which we helped build, and another ten for families who could not have afforded them.
With a new program of housing construction sponsored by the Nicaraguan government, we anticipate a need for construction of more stoves in the future.
